Community development resources

Community development is a central objective in a wide range of public policies and programs. Early childhood initiatives and resources that can be used to achieve better outcomes for children, their families and communities are included in the list below:


Australian Early Development Index
The Building Better Communities for Children project, which is part of the Australian Early Development Index, aims to help communities to assess how children are developing by the time they reach school age. The results provide communities with a basis for reviewing the services, supports and environments that influence children in their first five years of life. It also provides information for schools and the community to look ahead to the supports that need to be developed to enhance children's capacity to be successful once they reach school.

Building Stronger Communities
This website is for anyone working to help Victorian communities grow stronger - from community members to community workers, academics, policy makers and public servants.

Community.gov.au
This website provides access to online services and information for Australian community organisations, communities and individuals. It links to information and services provided by all levels of government as well as the non-government sector.

Community Builders NSW
This site aims to help local communities across the state of New South Wales share ideas on how to enhance and strengthen their community. The emphasis is on practical resources and how to do things including checklists on what is community building; how to use and interpret statistics; group work techniques; managing conflict; how to consult young people; funding sources; sustainable urban design; and partnerships with community and business.

Community Renewal
Community Renewal is a Queensland Government initiative, delivered in partnership between State and local governments, business, residents and the community sector to deliver projects that improve people's lives in selected Queensland Communities.

Healthy Start
Healthy Start is an Australia-wide initiative to support parents with learning difficulties and promote a healthy start to life for their young children.

NACBCS - National Association of Community Based Children's Services is the peak representative body for all Australian community owned children's services including Long Day Care and Out of School Hours Care services.

Our Community
Our Community provides a one-stop-gateway for practical resources, support and linkages between community networks and the general public, business and government - building capacity to strengthen the community in every Australian State and Territory.

Vanish
Vanish provides a formal structure through which to deliver, efficiently and effectively, advice, search and support to any member of the community who has experienced separation from the family of origin through adoption, being placed in an institution or foster care or through donor conception.

Victorian Community Indicators (VCI) Project
The Victorian Community Indicators (VCI) Project is designed to support local governments develop and use community indicators as tools for measuring health, well being and sustainability and for improving citizen engagement, community planning and policy making.

Wellbeing Australia
Wellbeing Australia's primary purpose is the development of caring, inclusive school communities which foster the wellbeing of all students, teachers and families. This is a networking website for those interested in how we might put this into practice by developing relational values, social and emotional literacy, restorative practices and social capital in Australia and the Pacific region.
