• Child Welfare Information Gateway - In 2007, the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information and the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse provided by the the US Children's Bureau, were consolidated and expanded to become the Child Welfare Information Gateway. The Gateway connects professionals and concerned citizens to timely, essential information and resources targeted to the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families. • Children, Youth and Family Consortium - Electronic Clearinghouse, University of Minnesota - a forum for sharing information related to the health, education and welfare of children, youth and families (United States)



• ELDIS: Children and Young People Resource Guide - hosted by the British Library for Development Studies the Electronic Development and Environment Information System (ELDIS) offers a searchable database of descriptions and links to a variety of information sources including the full text of an extensive collection of documents. • UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre, Florence, Italy - Information, research, and capacity-building are key functions of the centre. Child labour, child poverty, ethnicity education and conflict, and juvenile justice are examples of topics under investigation. • Children Now - a US policy and advocacy organisation for children. The site contains information about children's issues and links to other online information resources on children's issues (United States)



• Child Welfare: Gateway to Resources - produced by the Child Welfare Research Institute in Los Angeles the site provides links to a wide collection of child welfare resources and publications including the online journal Child Welfare Review (United States)



• ECPAT International - ECPAT is a global network of organisations and individuals working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes. The site contains news, current projects, newletters and publications.



• Research Forum at the National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP), Columbia University The Research Forum encourages collaborative research and informed policy on welfare reform, child and family well-being, and community/neighborhood issues. The website features a searchable database of summaries of large- and small-scale research projects, key topics pages, resources pages, and lists of recent publications related to these issues. • Fundacion Paniamor - a nongovernment organization working to prevent violence against children offering training, information and advocacy programs (San Jose, Costa Rica)



• Kids Help Line - a national telephone counselling service for young people aged 5 to 18 years set up to provide support and advocacy. The site provides statistics of calls received by subject, a collection of infosheets on topics such as, HIV/Aids, Domestic violence, Bullying, Drugs, Grief, Homelessness, Physical and sexual abuse, Self image, Family relationships, Sexuality, Suicide, and other publications. • Il Telefono Azzurro - an organisation promoting children's rights at every level, locally and internationally, by providing a telephone help line for ill-treated and neglected children and involvement in larger social projects and research for children. Information is in Italian. (Italy)



• Working Group on Girls, International Network for Girls (INfG) - INfG consists of more than 400 organizations and individuals in 60 countries. It was formed in 1995 in preparation for the Beijing Conference and to bring visibility to girls and lobby governments. Since Beijing the Group is following the progress of government commitments on behalf of girls and preparing a monitoring report to be published and disseminated at the UN Commission of the Status of Women (CSW) meeting in March 1998. The web site invites NGOs to contribute information on progress in their countries by completing a Country Commitment Chart.

• Family Life Development Center, Cornell University - a center for research, training, outreach and education with a focus on risk factors in the lives of children, youth, families and communities that lead to family violence and neglect. (United States)



• National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect - central data archive for researchers in child abuse and neglect. (United States)



• National Child Protection Clearing House - a network of people and publications including newsletters, issues and discussion papers and bibliographies, a listing of organisations around the world and a searchable database of prevention programs. (Australia)



• Sahil - Against Child Sexual Abuse - Sahil is the only organisation in Pakistan that works exclusively on the issue of child sexual abuse and exploitation. Its work involves research, awareness raising, legal advocacy, intervention training, crisis intervention, free legal and medical aid for victims, publications and a resource centre. Research reports, facts and figures and newsletters are available on the Web site. (Pakistan)

Child Health


• Health Floor in Children's House - this floor in Children's House is moderated by the World Health Organization's Division of Child Health and Development. It provides access to Web Resources on Children and Health.



• Child and Adolescent Mental Health - A service provided by the US National Institute of Mental Health, this Web site contains a wealth of useful material for mental health practitioners, parents, and those who work with young people. The site provides booklets, fact sheets, Web pages on the mental health problems and disorders affecting children and adolescents such as autism, depression, learning disabilities, violence, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).



• Women, Children and HIV - This site contains a library of practically applicable materials on HIV infection in women and children including resources on prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT), infant feeding, clinical care of women and children living with HIV infection, and the support of orphans. The goal of this site is to contribute to an improvement in the scale and quality of international HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programs for women and children by increasing access to authoritative HIV/AIDS information.

Child Labour and Working Children


• The Concerned for Working Children - an organisation which works to support the cause of working children and believes solutions should be child centered and in the best interest of working children. The site contains pages on research, interventions, analysis of the proposed new ILO convention on child labour, current debates, and information about the position of the Indian independent association of working children, Bhima Sangha and the International Movement of Working Children. • Child Labour at CRIN - child labour is a key focus of the Child Rights Information Network. Reports, international treaties, news and highlights can be searched for by information type, country and language. (United Kingdom)



• Fisek Institute Science and Action Foundation for Child Labour - a non-governmental organization acting in the field of occupational health and safety at the national level. It aims to raise the consciousness of the public in order to remove the reasons forcing children to work; to eliminate the factors that are dangerous for their health and safety at work; and to ensure improvement of health, identity and self-esteem of working children. • Growing up in Cities - an international research project to understand better the ways in which children perceive and use the urban environment - both across time and across cultures. First conducted twenty years ago the current project is revisiting the original sites in Melbourne, Australia; Warsaw, Poland; Salta, Argentina; and Mexico City and including new sites in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Bangalore, India; Johannesburg, South Africa; Oakland, USA and Trondheim, Norway.

Children and War


• Children and Armed Conflict Unit, University of Essex - information resources and regularly updated news about war zones involving children including a report on the Unit's visit to Kosovo, a focus on Algeria, and the issue of small arms and light weapons, links to various organizations, key reports and legal instruments (United Kingdom).



• Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers - Convinced that the appalling situation faced by many child soldiers should no longer be tolerated by the international community, seven leading international NGOs - Amnesty International, Defence for Children International, Human Rights Watch, International Federation Terre des Hommes, the International Save the Children Alliance, the Jesuit Refugee Service, and the Quaker UN Office, Geneva - have come together to form this Coalition. Its main objective is the adoption of, and adherence to, an Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child prohibiting the military recruitment and use in hostilities of any person younger than 18 years of age. • CRIN's Children in Armed Conflict - The Child Rights Information Network theme on armed conflict offers the latest reports of the Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict, a document archive and email discussion list.



• Impact of Armed Conflict on Children - a report from Unicef, the result of a two-year process of research and consultation undertaken by Graca Machel, the Secretary-General's Expert on the subject and a former Minister for Education in Mozambique. The site provides key findings and recommendations from the report revealing the full extent of children's involvement in the 30 or so armed conflicts around the world



• International Committee of the Red Cross - the ICRC web site acts to help all victims of war and internal violence, attempting to ensure implementation of humanitarian rules restricting armed violence. The web site contains the text of key documents from the ICRC including current fact sheets on conflict areas throughout the world

• Centre for Europe's Children, University of Glasgow - Set up in 1997 and based at The University of Glasgow, The Centre for Europe's Children provides information on children's rights, policies and legislation to policy makers, practitioners and academics working throughout Europe on children's issues. Early Childhood


• Bernard van Leer Foundation - a private grant making organisation based in the Netherlands, that funds and shares knowledge about early childhood development. The website describes the 200+ projects the foundation currently funds with disadvantaged young children through partner organisations around the world. The foundation also publishes a twice-yearly journal on early childhood issues, plus frequent working papers and monographs on various early childhood topics. All are free to download or order from the website.



• Early Childhood Floor in Children's House - includes documents on early childhood care and development, related resources and links



• Early Child Development - a knowledge source developed by the World Bank in collaboration with other key organisations, the website is designed to assist task managers, practitioners, program designers, and decision makers. The site examines ECD and the theory underlying its techniques and programs, benefits gained from ECD interventions, how to design and run an ECD program and evaluate its efficacy, and how to do a cost-benefit analysis of an ECD program. • READY*SET*READ Early Childhood Learning Kit - developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, the Corporation for National Service, and the Department of Education to advance President Clinton's challenge to help every child in America read independently and well by the end of third grade.
