About the Clearinghouse
The National Child Protection Clearinghouse is funded by the
Australian Government's Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs as part of the government's response to the
problem of child abuse. The National Child Protection
Clearinghouse, which has operated from the Australian Institute
of Family Studies since 1995, collects, produces and
distributes information and resources, conducts research, and
offers specialist advice on the latest developments in child
abuse prevention, child protection and associated violence.
Goal
To inform policy, practice and research into child abuse prevention.
Functions
Publications
The information resources of the Clearinghouse are disseminated to a network
of clients through regular paper and electronic publications. Join the mailing list to receive two Issues Papers
and two Newsletters per year.
- Contributions welcome. The National Child Protection Clearinghouse is seeking
contributions to its Newsletter. If you are working or studying in an
area related to child abuse prevention and you think you could write an article or other items of relevance
which would interest our readership, the Clearinghouse would be pleased to hear from you.
Information and Advisory services
- Help desk. A phone-based help-desk provides information and advice to child welfare professionals and researchers. Phone (03) 9214 7888.
- Specialist advice. Clearinghouse research staff are available to help with requests
requiring a more specialised response. This may include the detailed analysis and interpretation of current
issues in child protection and child abuse prevention, informing program development and professional practice,
to providing advice on research methodology and program evaluations.
- Program Evaluation Consultancy Service. This service is designed for service providers
who run, or who plan to run, child abuse prevention programs. The aim is to provide greater support to those
agencies and groups who want to evaluate their prevention programs, but require advice and support to make it happen.
Networking/Outreach
- Professional networking. Staff provide a visible presence at workshops, conferences and related
activities, and frequently present papers and seminars. They also sit on a number of state-based and national advisory
groups and committees committed to child abuse prevention or the improvement of the child protection system.
- Email discussion list. Professionals working in the field are invited to join
childprotect to discuss research, practice and policy issues
relating to child abuse prevention and protection.
